We are FOUR Days away from Christmas and I’m beside myself with excitement! Christmas is my favorite Holiday and I love the time I get to spend with my family as we create memories and go through traditions that we have accumulated through the years.

This year is an especially special Christmas for me because my Mom is spending it with my family and I for the first time ever here in the USA. In years past we have gone to Zimbabwe to spend Christmas with her  so having her here is treat for my kids and I.

I want to talk about not getting caught up with the wrong “things” during this season which is so easy to do and I confess  have gotten caught up in the craze as well in the past. You see Christmas is all about getting together and enjoying time with your loved ones and NOT about how great your hosting skills are or how perfect you decorations look. While all that is nice, it can take away from the real meaning of Christmas. Having intimate moments with friends and family is what Christmas is all about. I have, in the past not enjoyed hosting Christmas because I was too caught up in making sure everything was perfect and that my guests would be impressed by all my cooking, hosting skills and my having a spotlessly clean house! (I know, I know, don’t judge me) I have since learnt to relax and to enjoy my company and not worry about the unnecessary; as long as I have enough food and as long as there’s chatter and laughter in my home, I’m happy and satisfied. Happy because more than likely my guests and I will remember conversations and the things that made us laugh instead of how clean my house was…

I’m all about creating memories and enjoying the simple times and moments with friends and family and that is way more fulfilling than “things.” So here’s to wishing you and yours a Merry Time with loved ones and taking time to create those priceless memories.

Season’s Greetings from The Maposas.
